Top 25 Films Starring Boris Karloff

I’ve done a list like this for horror legends Vincent Price, Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Basil Rathbone and Bela Lugosi. So why not Boris Karloff?

Karloff was most famous for playing the monsters in several of Universal’s old horror pictures from the 1930s-1940s. He also went on to star in a slew of other classic horror films.

He was one of the most talented actors of the genre and went on to inspire a lot of actors – Jack Nicholson, for instance.

Boris Karloff was an amazing talent and his ability to chill audiences to the bone was what made him a legend.

These are his twenty-five best films.

1. Bride of Frankenstein

  1. Love these topics that you put together on the horror icons. Having said that I’m going to give you the benefit of the doubt. I’m going to assume you haven’t seen his 3 thrillers for Val Lewton. If you have, you’ve made a glaring error. I can’t recall the author but there’s a book on the market about rewriting the Oscars and if I recall correctly, the book awards the 1945 Oscar to Karloff for his role in The Body Snatcher for best actor. I attended a film fest last year where the noted historian Greg Mank called Bodysnatcher the best horror film of the decade and he very well might be right. Bedlam and Isle of the Dead are the other two Karloff – Lewton thrillers that should be on the list. Glad to see you included The Black Room….. love that flick.
    Carry on…..

    • Yep… never seen The Body Snatcher or the other two. I’ll see if I can find it. I can always adjust the list later. But that’s why I do these, for feedback and discussion so I can find out about those things I may have missed in the endless sea of motion pictures.
